Four seasonal series, a Thursday Retiree Series, one-design and Portsmouth starts — and a warm welcome for non-member racers.
The Catawba Yacht Club runs four club seasonal series every year and a Retiree Series every Thursday. The Fall, Winter and Spring series consist of bi-monthly racing on scheduled Sundays; the Summer Series includes weekly races on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
On any given race day, sailors will find active one-design and Portsmouth class racing. Current one-design fleets are the MC Scow, Flying Scot and Ensign, alongside an active Portsmouth fleet. Dinghy races are sailed boat on boat — the order of finish is the order across the line. Portsmouth boats start together and finishes are corrected by their US Sailing rating.
While CYC is a private club, we heartily welcome non-member racers. Any sailor interested in racing at CYC should contact one of our fleet captains to get started. New to sailing? Start with our Learn to Sail clinics.

Race dates are posted on the club calendar. Skippers meetings review the course and any rule changes.
The pursuit course
Pursuit races start slowest boat first and everyone finishes together — in theory. The map shows the possible courses on Lake Wylie.
The Retiree Series and several regattas use the pursuit format. Boats start at staggered times based on their US Sailing rating, so the first boat across the finish line wins.
