Privacy policy

Catawba Yacht Club is a private, non-profit sailing and rowing club. This site exists to share our racing program with members and visiting sailors — not to collect or sell personal data. We keep only what we need to run the sailing program.

Information you give us. If you email a fleet captain, fill in the club contact form or sign up for a series or clinic, we receive what you send — typically your name, email address, boat and class, and any message you write.

Administrator accounts. Club volunteers who post results and news sign in with an email address and password. We store the email address and sign-in record for those accounts.

Basic usage data. Like most websites, our hosting platform records standard technical information such as pages requested, browser type and approximate location, used only to keep the site working and to understand which pages are useful.

Race results, standings, fleet captain contacts and club news are published intentionally and include sailors' names, boat names and sail numbers — the normal practice for published sailing results. If you would prefer your name or a photograph not appear, contact us and we will remove it.

We use what we collect to answer your questions, get you on a boat, run and score races, publish results and news, maintain administrator access, and keep the site secure and functioning. We do not use it for advertising.

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only with club volunteers who need it to run the program, with the service providers that host this site and deliver our email, and where required by law. Some club resources — the shared calendar, crew list and document shares — are hosted by Google and are subject to Google's own terms.

The site uses only the cookies and local storage needed to operate — chiefly to keep an administrator signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, though signing in to the admin area will not work without them.

Race results and club news are kept as a permanent historical archive of the program. Correspondence and administrator accounts are kept only as long as useful for club business.

Our Learn to Sail and junior activities involve minors, and registration for those programs is handled by a parent or guardian through the club. This site is not designed for children to use directly and we do not knowingly collect information from children through it.

You may ask us what information we hold about you, ask for a correction, ask that your name or photograph be removed from the site, or ask us to stop emailing you. Email us and we will handle it.

If this policy changes, we will post the revised version here with a new date.
